The TJSL training staff has assembled the Soccer Skills at Home series to offer players backyard activities to help them stay fit and stay active.

Have fun and enjoy trying them!

 

Forward Moves

The video demonstrates a number of different moves for players to try and learn. These can be done in the house or the backyard and players can use plastic cups, shin guards, or socks for cones.

 

 

Moving V-Shape

This activity can be done in the house or the backyard.

 

 

Slap Cut

This activity can be done in the house or the backyard. Players should start slowly and then increase speed as they become more comfortable with the activity.


 

 

Moving Inside Out

The Moving Inside Out activity can be done in the house or the backyard.


 

 

Slide on the Move

The Slide on the Move activity can be done in the house or the backyard. Start slow and add speed while always maintaining control of the ball.


 

 

Box, Roll & Step

The Box, Roll & Step activities can be done in the house or the backyard and players can use plastic cups, shin guards, or socks for cones. Don't forget the challenge to see how fast you can go while maintaining control of the ball.

Ball Mastery

The Ball Mastery activities can be done in the house or the backyard. Remember to start slow and then add speed while always maintaining control of the ball.


 

 

Turning with the Ball

For the Turning with the Ball activities, players will need a wall or bench and something to use for a cone such as a socks, shin guard or a plastic cup.



 

 

 

Home with the Pros

The New England Revolution's Home with the Pros training activities can be done in the house or the backyard. Start slow and then add speed while always maintaining control of the ball.


 

 

Quick Feet Challenge

The Quick Feet Challenge can be done in the house or the backyard. Start slow and then add speed while always maintaining control of the ball.


 

 

Knee Juggling Challenge

The Knee Juggling Challenge can be done in the house or the backyard. How many can you do in a row?


 

 

Toe Taps

Toe Taps can be done in the house or the backyard. It's a great warm up that can be combined with other Soccer Skills at Home activities.


 

 

Inside Out Ball Mastery

The Inside Out Ball Mastery activity can be done in the house or the backyard. Players can use cups, socks or shin guards for the "cones".


 

 

Tic Tacs

The Tic Tacs activity can be done in the house or the backyard.


 

 

Ground Control

These ground control activities can be done in the house or the backyard. The video shows four components:

Extra Footwork

These extra footwork activities can be done in the backyard or in a basement. Some of these are easy but they get more difficult as the video continues. Challenge yourself to see how many you can master.


 

 

Outside Inside

The Outside Inside activity can be indoors or outdoors. The video highlights the activity using the right foot, but players should try both the right and left foot.
 

 

 

Triangle Keep Up

The Triangle Keep Up activity is great for all players and especially goalies. The players can use shin guards or other objects for the cones.
 

 

 

Self Passing & Receiving

For this Self Passing & Receiving activity, players can use a wall or a sofa.


 

 

10 Minute Footwork

The 10 Minute Footwork activity includes:

  • Inside Outside - 30 seconds
  • Toe Pull - 30 seconds
  • Cruyff - 30 seconds
  • Rollover - 30 seconds
  • Croqueta - 30 seconds
  • Drag Back - 30 seconds
  • Hot Step - 30 seconds
  • L Cut - 30 seconds
  • Behind the Back - 30 seconds
  • Body Fient - 30 seconds
     

 

 

 

Taps

The Taps activity includes Sole Taps, Inside Taps, V Turns, and Pull Push Rolls. For these activities, you can use your shin guards as cones. 

The four skills demonstrated in today's video get gradually more difficult.   If you want to get better at these moves, practice them not until you can perform them correctly, but until you don't make a mistake when performing them.
 

 

 

Two Cones

The Two Cones activity builds on the Taps video to provide players with another activity to build footwork skills. Once again, players can use their shin guards as cones.
