Teaneck Junior Soccer League (TJSL) is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization founded in 1986 to promote the sport of soccer in Teaneck. Since its inception, more than 20,000 children ages 4 to 18 have participated in the league with over 1,000 children playing each year. TJSL's mission is to provide Teaneck residents with the opportunity to learn, play and enjoy the game of soccer.

Players, coaches, referees, parents and spectators each have a role in the soccer experience. In the most basic terms:

  • A coach coaches
  • A player plays
  • A referee refs 
  • Parents and spectators cheer

All parents, guardians, spectators and attendees who participate in or watch TJSL events or activities shall be responsible for his or her own words and actions, and each such person shall conform his or her behavior to the following Code of Conduct:

  • I shall demonstrate and encourage my child or children to demonstrate fairness, respect, and self-control at all times;
     
  • I shall treat and encourage my child or children to treat any coach, referee, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee with respect, regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or ability.
     
  • I shall not engage or encourage my child or children, or any other person, to engage in unsportsmanlike conduct with any coach, referee, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
     
  • I shall not engage or encourage my child or children, or any other person to engage, in any behavior which would endanger the health, safety or well-being of any coach, referee, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
     
  • I shall not use or be under the influence of drugs or alcohol while at a TJSL event or activity.
     
  • I shall not use tobacco products while at a TJSL event or activity.
     
  • I shall not engage or encourage my child or children, or any other person, to engage in the use of profanity.
     
  • I shall not engage or encourage my child or children, or any other person to engage in verbal or physical threats or abuse aimed at any coach, referee, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
     
  • I shall not initiate or encourage my child or children, or any other person, to initiate a fight or scuffle with any coach, referee, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
     
  • I accept the fact that dissent of any type, by word or action, is prohibited in soccer events and activities.
     
  • I understand that only coaches may provide direction to the players. I will refrain from interfering by shouting directions at the team during play.
     
  • I will remember that TJSL programs are for the benefit of the children and not to satisfy my own ambitions or desires.
     
  • I shall notify the coaches as soon as I know that my child cannot attend any training session, practice, game or tournament.
     
  • I shall pick-up my child on-time from games and practices.
     
  • I will not enter the playing surface during a game for any reason unless invited by the referee.

I understand that as a parent/guardian of a participant in a TJSL program, my behavior at all related events and activities must be beyond reproach. If I fail to conform to this Code of Conduct, I will be subject to disciplinary action, including but not limited to the following in accordance with NJ Statues Annotated (NJSA) 5:17-1, et sq. I understand that penalties may be imposed in any order or in any combination as follows:

  • Removal of child or children from TJSL programs.
     
  • Season suspension or multiple season suspension issued by TJSL.
     
  • Suspension from multiple TJSL events or activities events.
     
  • Suspension or immediate ejection from a TJSL event or activity.
     
  • Written warning issued by TJSL.
     
  • Verbal warning issued by TJSL.
